Dale L. Roberts, age 85, of Apple River, IL, passed away September 27, 2023, in his home. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodists Church in Elizabeth, IL. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Elizabeth. Family and friends are invited to share in Dale’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Dale was born July 24, 1938, in Elkhorn, WI, the son of Alvin and Alyce (Eichel) Roberts. He graduated from Elizabeth High School with the class of 1957. Following high school, Dale enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, Dale then went on to attend technical school. He married Kay Stadel, and together they had four children.
Dale worked in environmental services in the Apple River, Chestnut, and Scales Mound areas from the early 1960’s until 1975. In 1975 he signed on with the Village of Elizabeth. In 1980, he married Jane Kokes, and shortly thereafter, in 1982, he took a job with the Savanna Army Depot. Since 1995, he has owned and operated A to Z Environmental Services, in Elizabeth.
Dale took pride in his community and showed it through service. He was a volunteer fireman, and now a lifetime honorary member of the Elizabeth Fire Dept. He was a member of the Lions Club, serving as President for two years, and served on the Elizabeth Town Board for more than seven years, as well as five years as the Mayor of Elizabeth. He was also Chairman of the Public Works Committee and was active with the Jo Carroll Solid Waste Agency, the Elizabeth and Hanover Chambers of Commerce, respectively, and the RAB Committee at the Savanna Army Depot.
Dale is survived by his children, Alan (Angie) Roberts, of Elizabeth, Larry (Kathy) Roberts, of Crystal River, FL, Robin Schuman, of Tacoma, WA, and Dean Roberts, of Elizabeth; step-children, Sandy (Calvin) Johnson, Mary Jo Sullivan, of Crystal River, FL, and Roy Fender, of Crystal River, FL; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Roberts; and long-time friend, Cindy Shaw, who is someone on which he could always rely.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Alyce; wife, Jane; brothers, Wayne and Wendell Roberts; step-children, Bill Fender and Julie Waugh; and step-grandchild, Amanda Adson.
