Dale Joseph Honerbaum

September 16, 1942 — March 20, 2020

Dale Joseph Honerbaum, age 77, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 20, 2020. A private service will be held with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. You may leave a condolence for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com .

Dale was born September 16, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Helen (Sprague) Honerbaum. He attended grade school at St. John’s Catholic School in Savanna, and is a Hanover High School graduate with the Class of 1960. On February 6, 1965, Dale married Carol Paisley of Hanover. They raised two children and celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Dale served many roles in life. He was a loving husband to Carol and always used his wit and humor to liven things up. To his daughter, Teri, Dale was a Hero, always being there when needed, especially to fix anything at a moments notice. And to his son, Jim, he was more than a father, he was also like a Brother, they did so much together. To his community, he was a faithful volunteer, especially with the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department. Dale loved and cherished his family, was a good provider, and especially loved being a Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Uncle.

He loved the family dogs, hunting, fishing, and driving through the beautiful countryside. He enjoyed the casino, playing poker with his fireman buddies, collecting coins, and spending time in nature. Dale worked many years for Kelly-Springfield Tire in Freeport, retiring in 1998. Earlier in life he had also worked at Eaton in Savanna, The Savanna Army Depot, and National Lock in Savanna.

Dale will be dearly missed by his wife, Carol of Hanover; his daughter, Theresa “Teri” (Bill) Neighbour of Morrison; his son, James “Jim” (Wanda) Honerbaum of Hanover; five grandchildren, Dave (Brittany) Middendorf, Stacy Middendorf (Fiance Austin Chapman), Mark (Stephany) Honerbaum, Scott (Christine) Honerbaum and Brian Honerbaum; six great-grandchildren, John, Owen, Orion, Kellen, Everly and Paislee; a sister, Linda (Lloyd) Bushnell of Arizona; Carol’s siblings, Lavon Rainey of Polk City, Iowa and Alex (Carolyn) Paisley of Dixon; and many nieces and nephews. Dale is preceded in death by both parents and five siblings, Constance “Connie” Simon, Elizabeth “Betty Mae” McClain, Bernadine Duffy, James Honerbaum, and David Kuntz; and brother-in-laws, Duane Paisley and Carl Paisley, and a sister-in-law, Norma Dauphin.

The family gives a special thanks to FHN Hospice, Dr. Crist, Dr. Holms and staff of Medical Associates, the Elizabeth Ambulance, Hanover Fire Department and first responders, and family and friends for all of their help, love and support, and for those that went above and beyond to help.
