Curtis Ray Adams, born March 12, 1961, in Savanna, Illinois, was a man whose heart belonged to the great outdoors. He grew up along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in Sabula, Iowa, where his love for hunting and fishing took root. Curtis attended Sabula schools and graduated from East Central High School in 1979, enjoying basketball, football, and track.
At sixteen, during the Sabula summer festival Island City Days, Curtis met Roxanne Leah Koch, his high school sweetheart. They married on May 28, 1982, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, and together they raised two daughters, Ashley, and Abigail, celebrating forty-one years of marriage filled with laughter and love.
Curtis had a zest for life, always making others laugh with his wit and charismatic personality. He worked hard, first at DuPont and later for over thirty years at Lyondell in Clinton, Iowa, where he cherished the camaraderie with his colleagues. He proudly served in the Army Reserve and was a member of the Jackson County Izaak Walton League.
His passion for hunting and fishing took him to Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Canada. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, boating on the Mississippi, and cycling with his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and spending time with them brought him immense joy. He loved attending their sporting events.
Curtis, affectionately known as "Hobart" by his father Ernie, had a smile that could light up a room. He was dearly loved by his wife Roxanne of Fulton, his daughters Ashley (Mark) Heun of Erie and Abigail (Justin) Eissens of Fulton, five grandchildren, Lacey, Grant, Callie, Nora, and Wayde, his mother Nancy of Clinton formerly of Sabula, and his sister Paula (Dale) Johnson of Sabula, and many friends.
