Curt Alan Pidde

Curt Alan Pidde, age 58 of Thomson, IL, passed away April 5, 2023 at home after an extended illness. A graveside service with full military rites will be held at 2 p.m, April 30, 2023 at Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, followed by fellowship and a luncheon at the Argo Fay United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given in Curt’s honor for the Thomson Veteran’s Memorial.

Curt was born December 23rd, 1964 in Clinton, IA, the son of Charles “Monty” and Myrna (Sander) Pidde. Curt grew up in the Thomson area and is a 1983 graduate of Thomson High School where he participated in band and enjoyed playing the drums. When not in school, Curt was usually out doing one of three things: looking for morels, hunting, and fishing. He also cherished his family fishing trips to Amherst, Wisconsin for many years.

On August 25, 1986, Curt began his career in the United States Army. He served as a Combat Engineer, attaining the rank of Sergeant, for 4 years. Curt was stationed in Hawaii, and his deployments took him to Korea, Japan, and Thailand. His favorite part was not just the travelling, but the food. Curt had received several medals, certifications, and ribbons while in service and ended up retiring in May of 1991 at the rank of Sergeant.

Curt held several different jobs such as working with the pallet company in Thomson, construction in Belvidere, and welding for a mining company in Virginia and Texas where he assembled the conveyers used in the operations. He eventually made his way back to Thomson and continued his welding career in Fulton, IL.

Curt was preceded in death by his father Charles “Monte” Pidde, brothers-in-law Duke Hebeler and Joe McCray Sr., a great-nephew and a great-niece.

He was survived by his mother Myrna Pidde; two sisters, Kim McCray of Mount Carroll and Carrie Hebeler of Thomson; and his two brothers, Guy (Theresa) Pidde of Fulton and Cory (Diane) Pidde of Mount Carroll; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
