Cora Belle Mcginnis

Cora Belle McGinnis, age 78, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the home of her daughter. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at the York Community Congregational Church, Thomson, Illinois, with Pastor Ron Abbott, officiating. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Friends may call from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund has been established.

Cora was born July 7, 1927 the daughter of William and Edith (McDonald) Hamm at home in Garden Plain, Illinois. She attended Morrison, Illinois schools. On October 30, 1943, Cora married Paul K. "Jake" McGinnis in the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois. Jake passed away March 7, 1997.
Cora enjoyed being a farmwife and a homemaker. She and P.K. owned & operated McGinnis Market in Thomson for over sixty years. The McGinnis farm has been in the family since 1882. Cora was well known and loved by many. She clothed and fed those in need. Cora was a "Guardian Angel" to many children. She enjoyed cooking, garage sales, and shopping with her children.
Cora will be deeply missed by her two sons, Larry "Bim" (Debbie) McGinnis of Thomson and Randy (Cindy) McGinnis of Thomson; three daughters, Jane Ann (Don) Groharing of Kansas City, Missouri, Donna French of Thomson and Cindy (Bill) Schleuing of Hanover, Illinois; twenty three grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and one great –great grandchild; three brothers, Melvin Hamm of Thomson, Carl Hamm of Thomson and Doug Hamm of Savanna; four sisters, Clara Bauer of Savanna, Betty (Del) Dellinger of Eagle Rock, Missouri, Shirley Reiland of Clinton, Iowa and Paulette (Lloyd) Hamilton of Savanna.
Cora is preceded in death by her husband, P.K., one son, Paul K. McGinnis, Jr.; four brothers, Bill, Francis, Allen and Alvin; two sisters, Faye and Evelyn and one grandson, Bobby and one great granddaughter, Cassandra
