Claire Elizabeth (Floyd) Gunter, age 87 of Elizabeth, Illinois, formerly of Hinesville, Georgia, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth.
Mrs. Gunter was born on January 8, 1924, the daughter of Eugene P. and Georgia (Martin) Floyd in Taylors Creek, Georgia. Fannie Lou (Phillips) Floyd was her step-mother. Mrs. Gunter married J. Fred Gunter of Elberton, Georgia on October 30, 1945 in Hinesville, Georgia.
Mr. and Mrs. Gunter lived in the Atlanta, Georgia area most of their lives, until retiring to Hinesville. Mrs. Gunter served as a volunteer for many years at the South Fulton Hospital in East Point, Georgia. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Hinesville and was a member of the Bertha Martin Circle.
Claire will be dearly missed by her husband of sixty-five years, J. Fred Gunter of Elizabeth; one daughter, Anita (Les) Montgomery of Galena, Illinois; two grandchildren, Mindy (Tom) McKeaige of Woodridge, Illinois and Joy (Paul Riese) Montgomery of Carpentersville, Illinois; a brother, Carroll (Billie) Floyd of Hinesville; two sisters in-law, Carolyn Floyd and Cynthia Floyd, both of Hinesville; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Earl, Edwin, Jimmy and Billy Floyd; three sisters in-law, Sue, Betty and Margaret Floyd.
Claire’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Dr. Bernard, FHN Hospice and the entire staff at Grandview Estates and the Elizabeth Nursing Home for the exceptional care she received while residing there.
