Clair L. Dobson, age 91, of Bellevue, Iowa died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. Visitation will be held 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Marsha Wilfong of the First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue officiating. Burial will take place in Reeseville Cemetery, rural Miles, Iowa.
Clair was born February 2, 1920, the son of Leo Franklin and Olive Lucille (Orfield) Dobson in Decatur, Iowa. He graduated from New Virginia High School, Class of 1940. On August 4, 1940, Clair married Benita R. Atherton in Leon, Iowa. During World War II, Clair served in the United States Navy aboard the SS Cape San Martin, with the HYPO-Williams Group.
Clair managed the Pearson Hereford Ranch in Indianola, Iowa and later farmed with Blake Farms in Green Island, Iowa for twenty years until 1975. Clair then worked for Bellevue Municipal Light Plant until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Green Island Congregational Church and the American Legion Post# 677, Miles, Iowa. Clair enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Clair loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Clair will be dearly missed by his wife of seventy years, Benita of Bellevue; two sons, Rodney Dobson of Preston, Iowa and Sam (Lorri) Dobson of Green Island, Iowa; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Geraldine) Dobson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Eugene (Jackie) Dobson of Eddyville, Iowa; two sisters, Gloria Garten of Williamsburg, Iowa and Patricia Finquist of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Clair is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald, Robert, Joseph and Charles Dobson and three sisters, Maurine Frizzell, Virginia Vaughn and Mary Dobson.
