Charlotte Marie Nesemeier of Shannon, IL, passed away Saturday, December 17, at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, IL. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Lanark. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Charlotte was born July 26, 1938, daughter of Charles and Leeola (Allen) Rye. Growing up, Charlotte’s dad worked construction, which took the family all over; living in Arkansas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Illinois. She went to many schools growing up, attending Freeport High School for three years before graduating from Janesville High School with the class of 1956. In high school Charlotte met the love of her life, W. Don Nesemeier. On their first date Don took Charlotte to church for Easter service; the rest was history. Charlotte and Don got married on September 29, 1956. Together Charlotte and Don raised one daughter and celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Charlotte was certainly a people person. She always enjoyed spending time with friends; going to lunch, playing cards, and bowling back when Shannon had a bowling alley. Faith was an important part of Charlotte’s life. She was a long-time member of the Bethel Methodist Church in Shannon. Most recently Charlotte worked for Northwest Eye Care, working at the front desk. She retired from Northwest Eye Care in 2013
Charlotte will be dearly missed by her daughter, Terry Nesemeier-Whitson (Jeff Whitson) of Forreston, IL; granddaughter, Brittany (Chris) Sherden; and great-grandson, Lucas. Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lee Ola, her husband, W. Don Nesemeier, and her brother, Charles “Butch” Rye.
