Charles Young, age 82 of Savanna, Illinois died Sunday April 15, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the Frank Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Reverend Mark Harkness of the United Methodist Church will officiate A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at Frank Law Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.
Charles was born near Galena, Illinois on March 28, 1925, the son of Henry and Anna Belle (Schultz) Young. He attended grade school in Thomson, Illinois. Later on Charles joined the Navy and was assigned to a destroyer which arrived in Pearl Harbor just hours after the bombing. After his military service, Charles was married to Betty J. Irons on November 30, 1946 in Clinton Iowa, and went to work for the Savanna Army Depot as a heavy equipment operator for thirty-some years. In his leisure time Charles loved vegetable gardening, fishing, bird watching, wood working, Nascar racing and was a dire New York Yankee baseball fan.
Charles will be missed by his son Scott of Savanna, his daughter JoAnn (Mike) Hook of Mt. Carroll, his grandson Joseph, a sister Lorraine Eissens of Thomson, two brothers David Young of Thomson and Pete (Andi) of Anaheim, California., and two half brothers Ronald and Gene Bull both of Savanna.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty who passed away February 9, 2003, a son Terry (JoAnn of St. Louis) and his brother Henry.
