Charles T. Thompson, 89, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna, with Rev. Nancy Wilkinson officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Community United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere, Illinois.
Charles was born October 18, 1921, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Neils and Florence (Embick) Thompson. He graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1939. Charles was united in marriage to Mildred Edwards on July 4, 1942, in Savanna. She preceded him in death in May of 1987.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He went to work for the Milwaukee Rail Road after the war, then went on to the Milwaukee Road Credit Union before becoming Vice President of the Illinois Credit Union League in Oak Brook, Illinois. Charles was a member of the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna and the Savanna American Legion. He enjoyed going to the Chicago Cubs Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona, and loved spending time with his family.
Charles is survived and lovingly remembered by his son Brett Thompson of Savanna, Illinois; one sister, Jeanne (Rocky) Bess of Savanna; one brother Donald (Lucille) Thompson of Savanna; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mildred.
