Charles "Chuck" R. Schroeder, age 78, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, June 1, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island. A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A time of sharing will be held at 5:00 p.m., following the visitation. A celebration of life will be held at TnTs Roundhouse (formerly Schroeder’s Bar), 939 Chicago Ave, Savanna after the time of sharing. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial fund has been established.
Chuck was born on October 9, 1940, the son of Charles and Mary (Raymond) Schroeder of Savanna. He graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1958. Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Diana Heitman, on June 18, 1960 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna.
After graduation, Chuck worked as a Clerk for the Milwaukee Railroad. He also tended bar at Bette Mom’s and Manny’s in Savanna before purchasing Bimm’s Tavern in 1986. He owned and operated Schroeder’s Bar on Chicago Avenue, until retiring and later selling the bar in 2019. Chuck was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed playing pool, card games, bowling, and fishing. In his younger years, he also played softball, hardball, and tap-danced. Chuck loved taking annual fishing trips with his family to Wisconsin and Minnesota. Most of all, Chuck cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Chuck will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Diana; four children, Charles “Chuck” Schroeder of Savoy, Illinois; Rhonda Schroeder of Savanna, Tracy Schroeder of Savanna, and Steve (Laurie) Schroeder of Chadwick, Illinois; five grandchildren, Matthew (Jenessa) Anderson, Jessie Themas, Steve (Yelena) Schroeder, Breanna Schroeder, and Kayleigh Schroeder; four great grandchildren, Karson, Kegan, Kaid, and Autumn; and one sister, Sandra (Ralph) Palomares of Hesperia, California.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Brad Anderson, Jr.
