Charles R. "Cork" Tipp age 78, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Quincy Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna with Pastor Michael Jones of York Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Savanna VFW. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Cork's memory.
Cork was born on June 6, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Albert and Pheobe (Sigafus) Tipp. He attended Savanna schools. Cork served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He drove truck and hauled freight for forty-five years, retiring from Heartland Express in Iowa City, Iowa.
Cork was a lifetime member of the Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2223. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears; he also liked boxing. Cork enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and especially his best friend, "Jake" the dog.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Tipp of Savanna, Illinois, David (Diane) Tipp of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Charles (Jennifer) Tipp, Jr. of Craig, Colorado; one sister Stella Hatfield of Savanna, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Cork was preceded in death by his parents; one son Albert "Ronnie" Tipp, three brothers, James "Bud" Tipp, Lyle Tipp, and Clyde Tipp, and two sisters Juanita Kosier and Dolline Rogers.
