Charles D. Pittman, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois, died as a result of a hunting accident Saturday, November 18, 2006 in rural Savanna, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Pastor Mike Jones of the York Baptist Church officiating. Cremation Rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 24 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Mississippi Palisades State Park or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Charles was born February 8, 1927, in Mayfield, Kentucky, and was raised by his mother Irene Pittman and Charles Smith. He attended Savanna area schools. Charles married Terrill Tropp in Savanna and later married Rena Andersen in Savanna.
Charles joined the Navy and served in World War II. He later worked Security at Savanna Army Depot for 35 years. Charles also sold Real Estate. Charles was active in the Savanna Army Depot Union, and was a Counselor at the Boys Camp. Charles had his Airplane Pilot's license, and he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and walking his dog "Kelly", he also enjoyed reading. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charles will be dearly missed by his two sons, Charles Michael (Lorri) Pittman of Villapark, California, Jeffrey (Lesia) Pittman of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two daughters Cindy (Jerry) Railey of Knoxville, Tennesee and Kristi (Daniel) DeMarr of Davenport, Iowa, two step-sons Charles (Holly) Gergin of Belton, Missouri and Aydogan (Deneen) Gergin of Winsor, Missouri; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step brother Charles Smith of Mexico Beach, Florida.
