Charles "Chuck" Nobis

Charles “Chuck” Nobis, age 86, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at the nursing home of the Senior Care Community, Galena, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00pm., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, IL. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Private family burial will take place at a later time in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois.
Chuck was born April 3, 1926, in Hanover, Illinois, the son of C. Elston and Maude (Bessie) Campbell) Nobis. He graduated from Hanover High School after which he served his country stateside in the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict and later in the Reserves. Chuck then returned to continue running the family farm in rural Hanover. On July 9, 1955, Chuck and Mary Atchison were the first couple married by Pastor Henry Grishkowsky at the Lutheran Church in Hanover. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club as well as a school bus driver at Hanover and River Ridge for many years. You could always count on his genuine smile and friendly personality, not to mention his storytelling and memory for details. He enjoyed visiting and joking around, keeping watch over his canine companion,Copper, and “resting his eyes” to old Westerns and sports programs. He loved home-cooked dinners with family and friends and made sure no one ever went away hungry.
Chuck is survived by his three children, Linda Nobis of Hanover, Randy (Susan) Nobis of Warren, and James (Deborah) Nobis of Hanover; and seven grandchildren, Zach Nobis-Olson, Jasmine Nobis-Olson, Shannon Hoppe, Charles Nobis Jr., MarySue Nobis, Amanda Nobis, and Jamie Nobis. Chuck was preceded in death by both parents, an infant sibling and his wife.
Chuck and his family extend their thanks to all the medical staff at Midwest Medical Center and Mercy Hospital, Medical Associates,Galena and Dubuque ,and Hospice of Dubuque. He especially appreciated all of the special nurses and aides who not only cared for him, but cared about him.
