Charles Letcher, age 64, of Savanna, passed away May 28, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 2p.m. at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna with a visitation from 12 p.m-2p.m.
Charles was born July 9, 1959, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of David and Jerrie (Long) Letcher. He graduated from Savanna High School, class of 1977. After graduation, Charles threw himself passionately into his work at the Savanna Meat Locker, and later he poured his heart into delivering propane tanks for a family friend. And then, a few years down the line, his beautiful daughter, Amber, came into the world giving him renewed joy.
Through all the ups and downs of his life, Charles never lost sight of his many passions and hobbies. His eyes sparkled with delight as he tended to his beloved garden, nurturing everything from fragrant herbs & flavorful peppers to juicy tomatoes. And on quiet evenings, he liked to enjoy the thrilling worlds of Stephen King and Dean Koontz novels. He poured his heart into delightfully cooking meals, and he felt happiness as he carefully arranged his Marvel Comics collection. But above all, Charles's deepest passion was being a father to Amber and a papa to Allison.
As we say goodbye to Charles, we hold tightly to the memories of his laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering love. He leaves his daughter, Amber Kerkove of Savanna, Illinois; his cherished granddaughter, Allison Kerkove; and his dear sister, Merlinda Froutzis of Savanna, IL; nephew, Aiden Letcher, Savanna; and nieces, Tiffany Froutzis of Clinton, IA, and Ashley Letcher of Dubuque IA. Those that love him will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Though his parents David and Jerrie, and his brother Lonnie, have gone before him, we take comfort in knowing that they now welcome him home with open arms. Charles's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
