A Simple Life Well Lived
Charles L. Kloepping, passed away peacefully at the Parkview Living Center in Freeport on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the age of 85. Charles was born on February 12, 1940, in Freeport to Lester and Lucille (Koertner) Kloepping. He grew up on the family farm, in rural Pearl City.
Charles lived a life rooted in the land. He farmed from the time he was young and never strayed far from the fields that shaped him. Farming wasn’t just his livelihood—it was his rhythm, his peace, and his purpose. He found joy in quiet moments and steady routines.
Though reserved in nature, Charles had a kind spirit that came through in the small ways he showed he cared. He faithfully followed Pearl City sports, often tuning in to WCCI Radio to keep up with the teams. He cheered for the Cubs through highs and lows and made a tradition of raspberry picking—sharing his harvest generously with family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was working with puzzles.
Charles is survived by his brother, David Kloepping of Wisconsin; his niece, Leanne Rahn of Lanark; and his nephew, Elmer (Annette) Rahn of Mt. Carroll. He also leaves behind a great niece, four great nephews and nine great-great nieces and nephews, Justin (Ellen) Rahn and Evan; Correy (Kellie) Rahn, Austin, Emilie, Adalynn, and Anthony; Darrin (Romelle Morris) Rahn; Rachel (Timothy) Keil, Wyatt and Olivia; and Mitchel (Samantha) Rahn, Emmerson and Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy (Elmer, Sr.) Rahn.
Charles will be remembered at a memorial service held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 6, at Zion Community Church in rural Pearl City. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church, followed by a luncheon. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport.
