Charles “Duane” Kistler of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll.
Duane was born on January 10, 1943, the son of James and Mary (Jorgensen) Kistler in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Duane married Sondra Wengert, they had four children together. He earned his Master’s Degree in education from Illinois State University. On August 21, 1993, Duane married Rebekah Scoville at the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna. Duane loved keeping busy and putting in a hard day’s work. Together with his wife, he owned and operated True Value Home and Building Center in Savanna for 33 years.
Duane will be dearly missed by his wife of 23 years, Rebekah; three sons, Mike (Tammy) Kistler of Wasilla, Alaska, Mark (Lisa) Kistler of Soldotna, Alaska, and Jim (Jenn) Kistler of Wasilla; one daughter, Andrea (Shawn) O’Brien of Eufaula, Oklahoma; two stepchildren, Justin (Rebecca) Storjohann of Savanna and Leslie (Will) Barker of Sabula, Iowa; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Freida) Kistler of Parker Prairie, Minnesota, Robert Kistler of North Sioux City, South Dakota; two sisters, Marilyn (Robert) DeMarce of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Janice Pascoe of Elizabeth, Illinois; sister in-law, Mary Kistler of Hanover, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; longtime employee and friend, Lolita Hartman.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary, and one granddaughter, Piper Kistler of Wasilla, Alaska, longtime employee and friend, Wendy Groharing.
