Charles J. Guenzler age 93, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, and one hour prior to the service at the Church. Charles was born April 21, 1924 in Woodland Township, the son of Charles and Ethel (Adams) Guenzler. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. Charles married Juanita Smith on June 5, 1965. Juanita passed away August 28, 1981. Charles later married Betty Ruedter on June 8, 1985. They celebrated 32 years together.
Charles was a shepherd of the earth and it was shown in his farming. He farmed his whole life north of Mt. Carroll. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of God , rural Mt. Carroll. He served on the Church Board and choir leader for many years. Charles also served on the Woodland Township Board. Charles has been a Director of the Exchange State Bank in Lanark since 1963, and was involved with the ownership of the former Farmer's State Bank of Chadwick.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Betty; a niece, Jane Law of Mt. Carroll; his sister, Marjorie Mummert of rural Lanark; and many friends. Charles is preceded in death by both parents; his first wife, Juanita; his sister, Martha Law; a brother in-law, Lawrence Mummert in 2005; and his nephew, Allen Mummert in 1964, who was Carroll County’s first soldier killed during service in Vietnam.
