Charles D. Green, age 71, of Thomson, Illinois, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial gathering will be held at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008, and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60604 or American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, Virginia, 22312, in Charles memory.
Charles was born on February 9, 1937 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Russel W. Sr. and Kathryn M. (Hellyer) Green. He attended Thomson High School, Class of 1955. He received his Bachelors Degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb, and later received his Masters from the University of Missouri, Rolla. Charles married Nancy J. Smith on October 13, 1953 in the Methodist Parsonage, Thomson.
Charles taught Physics and Math at the Stockton High School for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1986. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Nancy moved to their cabin along the Mississippi River in Thomson. They have wintered in Texas since 1986. Charles was very handy with projects around the home including rebuilding their cabin after the 93 flood. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and garage saling. Most of all, Charles loved spending time with his family and friends.
Charles will be dearly missed by his wife, Nancy of Thomson; his mother Kathryn of Rock Falls; two sons, Jeff (Priscilla) Green of Frankfort, Illinois and Brian (Cindy) Green of Warren, Illinois; one grandson, Clinton Green (Frankfort), one step granddaughter, Amelia Gilroy of Jackson, Wyoming; a step-mother in-law, Dorothy Green of Thomson; two brothers, Russel W. (Mary Ann) Green Jr. of Rock Falls, Illinois and Robert (Alice) Green of Marion, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his father, Russel; and one infant son.
