Charles R. Geisz, age 91, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, formerly of rural Chadwick, Illinois, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at the CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mount Carroll, with Rev. Philip Bigelow officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mount Carroll.

Charles was born October 22, 1918, in Fair Haven Township, Illinois, the son of Charles and Clara (Daggert) Geisz. He graduated from Chadwick High School with the Class of 1936. Charles was married to Grace Hoffman on August 16, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mount Carroll. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1976, in Freeport, Illinois.

Charles and Grace farmed the family farm west of Chadwick. Charles was a life long member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mount Carroll, where he served on the church council and took part in many church activities. Sports were a great love in his life, he served on the Chadwick Athletic Boosters and was an avid bowler. Watching his grandchildren in sports was also a great joy for him. Charles liked to travel and enjoyed spending a month in Arizona for the last fifteen years. He also liked playing cards.

Charles is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Alice (Harlan) Ehmen of LaMoille, Illinois, June (Richard) Houzenga of Thomson, Illinois, and Janet (Pastor James) Rath of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Heidi (Gary) Fehlhafer, Andrew (Jennifer) Houzenga, Holly (Josh) Breuer, Amy Rath, Dan Rath, Tim Rath, Julie Rath, and Katie Rath; six great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, one step great great granddaughter; and one sister – in – law, Ferne Franz of Dixon, Illinois.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, William Geisz, and three sisters, Lila Dyson, Clara Geisz, and Mildred Gengenbach.
