Charles Eugene “Chick” Griffiths, age 89, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Home, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover with military rites accorded by the Hanover V.F.W. Post #5300. Memorials my be given to the Hanover V.F.W. Post #5300 in Chick’s memory.
Chick was born on December 1, 1922, the son of Roy and Kathryn (Lazenby) Griffiths in Keosauqua, Iowa. He graduated from Cantril High School, Cantril, Iowa with the Class of 1941. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. On May 5, 1946, Chick married Edna B. Strout in Milton, Iowa.
Chick worked for thirty years as a manager of the Q.T. Department for Flexonics in Bartlett, Illinois. While working at Flexonics, Chick worked with the Apollo Space Program. He was a member of the Cantril American Legion, as well as a lifetime member of the Hanover V.F.W. Post #5300. Chick also served on the Cantril School Board for two years. Chick loved to travel with his wife, Edna and they nearly visited every state. He loved wintering in Florida, going out to eat and visiting with his friends. Most of all, Chick treasured spending time with his family during the holidays.
Chick is survived his wife, Edna; one son, Anthony D. “Tony” Griffiths of Hanover; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one brother, James Griffiths of Hanover.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles Griffiths and one daughter, Anna Jeanne Sheetz.
