Charles E. “Chuck” Potter, age 78, of Elizabeth, Illinois died on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at home. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth with a visitation gathering and luncheon in the church basement immediately following the service, all are invited. Pastor Cheryl Carroll and Pastor Dan Schenck will officiate.
Chuck was born May 17, 1931, the son of Robert Harold and G. Helen (McDowell) Potter in Hanover, Illinois. Church graduated from Hanover High School with the Class of 1948. Chuck served in the United State Army during the Korean War. On December 21, 1950, Chuck married Joyce Kevern at Hanover United Methodist Church.
Chuck worked for the Elizabeth Garage as a mechanic for fifteen years; Chucks Service Station for twenty-six years and Dura Automotive for ten years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth; the Masonic Lodge, the Elizabeth History Museum Committee, the Scottish Rite Consistory and the Korean War Veterans Association. Chuck served on the Elizabeth Village Board and the Elizabeth Fair Board.
Chuck is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Joyce Potter of Elizabeth; two daughters, Candy (Brad) Albrecht of Elizabeth, Cheryl Rife of Stockton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Shean (Corey) Albrecht of Elizabeth, Trevor (Jessie Carlson) Albrecht, Jessica (Brian) Engle and Jerod (Kristen) Rife; seven great grandchildren, Caden and Addison Albrecht, Bryton and Avery Engle, Isaac, Samuel and Elizabeth Rife; two sisters, Anne Oates of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Sue (Mark) Cooper of Galena, Illinois; one brother, Harold Clyde (Yerda) Potter of Hanover, Illinois; two brother in-laws, Robert Helmich and Jim (Sandy) Buske, and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jane Crimmins, Ila Buske and Mary Helmich, and a brother, Jack. Potter.
