Charles A. "Al" Ferris

Charles A. "Al" Ferris, age 68, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Celebrant will be Father Moises Apostol. Burial will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Savanna with Military Rites accorded by the Savanna VFW Post #2223. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. A Memorial has been established in Al's name.
Al was born September 3, 1937, the son of Charles and Nerrine (Coon) Ferris. He graduated from Savanna High School, Class of 1955. Al served in the United States Air Force from 1955 through 1958. On February 28, 1960, Al married Sheila Rogers in Davenport, Iowa. Sheila passed away on April 9, 1997. On February 20, 2003, Al married Donna Ford. Al worked thirty-seven years for the Milwaukee Railroad. He was a member of the Mississippi Flyway Sportsman Club. Al loved his family; he enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, and sharing good stories with his friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed drag racing with his brother Jack. Al will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna of Savanna; a son Jeff (Lori) Ferris of Round Rock, Texas; a daughter, Julie (Shane Coffman) Ferris of Huntsville, Alabama; one step son; Robert (Margaret) Ford of Monroe Center, Illinois; three granddaughters; three brothers, Elmer "Gene" (Joann) Ferris of Clinton, Iowa, Cliff (Sue) Ferris, Larry (Carol) Ferris all of Savanna; sister-in-law Jean Ferris of Savanna; many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Sheila Ferris; and one brother Jack Ferris.
