Chandler Jo Betts, age 16, of Preston, IA, passed away at University of Iowa Hospitals, in Iowa City, after a tragic accident. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston, at 12 noon. Visitation will take place at the church from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Chandler was born April 9, 2006, in Clinton, IA, to Stephan and Angela Betts. Being 9 years younger than his closest sibling, Chandler truly is the baby of the family, and thus was doted on by his three older siblings growing up. But that didn’t stop him from growing into the fun-loving, goofball with a heart of gold, who so many grew to love. He was an old soul who gave great big bear hugs. You could catch him swearing sometimes, but somehow he found a way to make it come across in an endearing way.
Chandler was a junior at Easton Valley High School, where he will be dearly missed by many. His smiles, laughter, and tendency to bring out the same from others, were a bright spot in the school halls. He loved his friends and his girlfriend, Addy.
After school one could likely find Chandler fishing and spending time on the river, listening and dancing to music, playing cards with family, bonding with his nieces and nephews, or driving anything with wheels, especially if he could go fast in it!
And then there were his semis. Working on them, driving them, loading them, polishing them; he simply loved to spend time around them, specifically with his father. He and his dad spent many quality hours at the shed, and Chandler drove through many states in a semi.
Chandler is preceded death by his girlfriend, Addy Jepsen; two aunts, Ramona Betts and Sandra Klein; and Grandpa, Jim Betts. Chandler is survived by his father Stephan Betts, of Preston; mother, Angela Betts, of Andover, IA; two brothers, Trevor Betts, of Preston and Tate Betts, of Sabula, IA; sister, Abbigail (Andrew) Keegan, of Andover; grandparents, Judi and Hans Henningsen, of Preston; two nieces, two nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
