Cathryn Bork-Mathewson

Cathryn J. Bork-Mathewson, age 52, formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died October 29, 2014, in Savannah, Georgia.
Cathryn was born March 2, 1962, the daughter of Marshall and Helene (Wubben) Bork in Freeport, Illinois. She attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1980. She then went on to attend Highland Community College where she earned her Associate’s Degree. She worked as an ammunition technician and bomb inspector for the United States Government for years which had her stationed all around the world. She worked for the Sierra Ordinance Depot in Herlong, California from 1984-1989, in Taegu, South Korea from 1989-1993, and Fort Stewart, Georgia from 1993 until her retirement.
In her younger years, Cathryn was an active member of the FFA and 4-H Club, where she showed cattle for many years and received various awards and ribbons. As a teenager she participated in several pageants including Miss Flame and Miss Blackhawk where she either placed or won.
Cathryn enjoyed collection Indian memorabilia and taking care of her dogs and various animals. She adored riding motorcycles and riding in poker runs. Cathryn was a proud supporter of the United States Military. Most of all, she loved visiting the American Legion and VFW and talking and visiting with her many friends.
Cathryn is survived by a brother, Marshall Bork, Jr., of Savanna, Illinois; and two sisters, Carol Shreiner of Thomson, Illinois, and Shirley (Ronald) Brashaw of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Helene; a sister, Sharon Sack; and a nephew, Daniel Robichaud.
