Catherine M. Gengenbach, age 79 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed into heaven on Friday, September 30, 2016 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll. A memorial gathering will be held at Catherine’s home from 12:00-3:00 p.m., following the service. Catherine’s home is located at 15174 Wacker Road, Mt. Carroll, lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Carroll County Relay for Life, FHN Hospice, American Cancer Society or the Mt. Carroll Fire and Ambulance Association in Catherine’s memory.
Catherine was born on September 3, 1937, the daughter of Henry and Lucille (Foell) Mueller in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. She married George Gengenbach on September 3, 1955 in Savanna. George died on September 1, 2010 in Freeport, Illinois.
Catherine was a homemaker who treasured caring for her family. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Carroll County Farm Bureau, and the Carroll County 4-C’s. Catherine enjoyed watching game shows and playing cards and board games. She also enjoyed traveling, flower gardening and crocheting afghans. Catherine loved everyone close to her, especially the Bales Family and her card-playing friends. Most of all, Catherine cherished spending time with her children and two granddaughters.
Catherine will be dearly missed by two daughters, Linda Gengenbach of Mt. Carroll, and Kathleen (Tony Knowlton) Gengenbach of Lanark, Illinois; two granddaughters, Harley Jo Gengenbach and Hayden C.S. Gengenbach, both of Lanark; an “Adopted Son”, Ryan (Sarah Johnson) Bales of Mt. Carroll; one sister, Barb (Ron) Nolting of Dubuque; brother in-law, William (Janice) Gengenbach of Thomson, Illinois; sister in-law, Betty Steiner of Rockford, Illinois; a son in-law, Tom Kuss of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lucille Mueller; her husband, George; and two daughters, Sue Kuss and Deb Gengenbach.
