Carolyn Gaile Main, 75, of Hanover IL, passed away on December 31st in Freeport, IL. Carolyn and her dog, Shep, were traveling home from spending the holidays with their family and were involved in an accident that took both of their lives. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Elizabeth, IL with Reverend Kyungsu Park officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Safe Haven of Jo Daviess County in Carolyn’s memory.
Carolyn was born in Valliant, Oklahoma to Marion “Steve” and Winnie (Belk-Ziegler) Stephenson on January 28, 1938. She graduated Waukegan High School in 1956. She married Earl Eugene Main on August 26, 1961. After moving to Hanover, she worked as a house cleaning supervisor for Eagle Ridge Inn for 10 years. She was greatly involved in United Methodist Church of Elizabeth, IL.
Carolyn enjoyed time with family and volunteering alongside her church family. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season. Carolyn enjoyed her home in Hanover, IL with her faithful companion Shep. The two spent most of their time outdoors enjoying nature. When they spent time indoors, she enjoyed reading and baking. She was a woman who gave her love, time and home to anyone in need of it. Her selflessness and genuine love for all will be greatly missed.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Robert) Schumann of Ingleside, IL; two sons, Kurt (Patricia) Main and Ed (Teanna) Seibel of Beach Park, IL; her mother, Winnie (Larry) Ziegler of Libertyville, Illinois and her nine adored grandchildren, Allenha, Kyle, Shaney, Nicolas, Logan, Matthew, Daniel, Kurtis, and Meghan. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Earl and one daughter, Carmelle.
