Carolyn L. Ferris, age 87, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m.. Carolyn was born August 29, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Carmella (Venti) Lema, in Savanna. She attended Savanna Schools. On September 29, 1943, Carolyn married Arthur “Art” Ferris in Savanna. Art passed away July 1, 2005.
Carolyn loved her family and family gatherings. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She also enjoyed spoiling her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially with her famous buttered popcorn. Carolyn was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she also participated with St. John's Catholic Women and the Resurrection Choir. She was also a member of the Savanna Fire Department Cinderettes and the Retail Clerk's Union.
Carolyn worked for the Marth Brothers Five and Dime, the National T Company, the Savanna Red Fox, the Savanna Food Center as a Bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1986.
Carolyn will be dearly missed by one daughter, Nancy (Bud) Mix of Savanna; two sons, Ronald (Debbie) Ferris of Savanna, Todd Ferris of South Beloit, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Art; a son, Jerry Ferris; her sister and brother in-law, Harold and Carmella Schmidt; and both parents.
