Carole "Jackie" Walker

Carole Jacquelyn “Jackie” Walker, 95, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2026, at her residence at Pinnacle Place. Cremation rites have be accorded. A memorial service will be held on October 24, 2026, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Savanna, with Pastor Fernando officiating. Attendees are invited to join the family for coffee, desserts, and fellowship, following the memorial service. Jackie was born on December 26, 1930, in Savanna, Illinois, to Glenn and Marguerite Cassell. From her earliest years, Savanna shaped her — its river, its people, its rhythms — and she carried that sense of home with her throughout her life. After graduating with the Savanna High School Class of 1948, she married Robert “Hootch” Walker, on April 18, 1949. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the everyday joys of raising their four daughters: Pam, Jody, Meg, and Kim.

Jackie’s greatest devotion was to her family. She stayed home with her girls in their early years, creating a warm, steady household where each child felt known, supported, and loved. When her daughters were older, Jackie worked in the Savanna Lincoln school cafeteria, greeting students with her familiar smile and gentle humor. Her commitment to her community ran deep. Jackie was active with the Savanna Historical Society, preserving the stories of the town she cherished. She also served on the Savanna Ambulance Board for 20 years, offering her time and care. She was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church of Savanna. She served for many years teaching Sunday school, helping in the kitchen and serving on many committees. She never sought recognition; she simply believed in helping where she could.

Jackie was a wonderful cook who welcomed many to her table. She loved playing cards, especially bridge, and continued playing while living at Pinnacle Place. She also taught her family many card games.

Jackie will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jody (Mike) Holesinger of Surprise, Arizona; Meg Weiland of Holland, Michigan and Kim Bundy of Savanna; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Rich) Hartgrove, Nick Holesinger, Matthew (Victoria) Weiland, Sarah (Devin) Shea, Carisa (Doug) Sels, Karis (Corey) Lightfoot and Kali (Seth) Partin; and seven great-grandchildren; Kailem, Porter, Landon, Kimber, Olivia, Owen and Gracie. Each of them carries a piece of her — her kindness, her steadiness, her quiet strength.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert “Hootch” Walker, and her daughter, Pam Cleary. Though Jackie’s earthly journey has ended, the love she poured into her family and community continues to ripple outward, touching lives just as she always did.
