Carol Jean Yaddof

July 12, 1933 — January 13, 2024

Carol Jean Yaddof, 90, of Preston, Iowa died January 13, 2024 at her winter home in Apache Junction, AZ surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held February 3, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 11-1 with a funeral service following the visitation. Cremation rights have been accorded and burial will be at the Preston Cemetery at a later date.

Carol was born July 12th, 1933 to Conrad and Nellie (Daniels) Meyer. She was a baptized member of Green Island Congregational Church where she married Elmer Yaddof, Jr on February 21, 1953. After their marriage she joined St John’s Lutheran church in Preston where she was a member of the Women of the Church, Martha Circle. She also taught confirmation for several years and Bethel Bible series to adults.

Carol graduated from Miles High School with the class of 1950 at the age of 16 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and the University of Dubuque obtaining her teacher’s certificate. Her first teaching job was at Spunky Ridge Country School. She also taught in Andrew, Maquoketa and Preston where she subbed for 16 years. She later worked at the US Post Office for 6 years. Elmer and Carol owned and operated Yaddof Apiaries for 50+ years. She did the bookkeeping since finding out soon after their marriage that she was allergic to bees. She also spoke to many groups about bees.

She was a past president of the Woman’s Club and along with her cousin, Dona Duhme, she was instrumental in bringing Girl Scouts to Preston. She and Dona both became scout leaders.

Carol enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren taking them on trips and going to as many of their events as she could. She enjoyed reading, playing piano and traveling. She was fortunate to have visited 49 states, Canada, Mexico, England and China. She loved playing cards, especially with her friends in Apache Junction and loved her winters there. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She was devoted to her cat, Kitty.

Carol is survived by her children, Steven (Linda) of Platteville, WI, Christina (Ray) Johnson, Thomas (Rose) and William (Janet) all of Preston. Also her 10 grandchildren, Conrad and Kinsey Yaddof, Trae, Tony and Andy Johnson, Cortney Loewen and BJ Yaddof, Melissa Bodecker, Amy Kinney and Nicole Yaddof; her 21 great grandchildren, Beatrice & Matilda, Cassidy and Kaitlyn Yaddof, Liviah, Avah and Emmah Johnson, Kael and Maisy Johnson, Krue Jobgen and Nash and Ridge Loewen, Aidan and Owen Yaddof, Mya, Levi and Ian Bodecker, Jordyn and Trey Kinney, Kinsley Bennett and Jesa Brandenburg; and sister-in-law, Lois Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, sister, Sharon, grandson, Devon Yaddof, great granddaughters Paisley Bennett, Grace Yaddof and Hadley Brandenburg.
