Carol Sword

Carol Sword, 58, of rural Mount Carroll died on January 13, 2011 at her home surrounded by family. Carol was born April 28, 1952 in Doylestown, PA, the daughter of Frank and Doris (Shelmire) Warta. As a graduate of Shannon High School in 1970, Carol went on to obtain her nursing degree and two Masters Degrees from Northern Illinois University. She took great personal pride in her chosen career in the field of healthcare. She dedicated her life to the care and welfare of others. Of her many career accomplishments, she was most proud of her role in the creation of FHN Hospice and her pioneering role as a Nurse Practitioner.
In her free time, Carol enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, canning, and caring for her many pets. Carol adored her three grandchildren and shared with them her love of travel during the many trips they took together.
She is survived by her dedicated husband, Jim Huffine of Mount Carroll; one daughter, Carri (David) Oslager of Elgin; and three beloved grandchildren, Alex, Leah, and Rachel of Elgin; step-daughter, Rosyln Sword of Tennessee; her father, Frank Warta of Savanna; six sisters, Mary Schrage, Patricia Warta, Katherine Crede, Karen Williams, Theresa Dyar, Susan Warta; three brothers, Thomas Warta, James Warta, Matthew Warta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Snetcher; her soulmate and husband, Wayne Sword; her mother, Doris Warta; and three brothers, Frank Warta, Jr., Michael Warta, and Patrick Warta.
The service will be officiated by Don Swanson. In accordance with her wishes, Carol has been cremated and a private burial is to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FHN Hospice at: FHN Hospice, 773 West Lincoln Boulevard, Suite 403, Freeport, IL 61032.
