Carol Ruth Lara, age 75 of Elizabeth, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth.
Carol was born on May 3, 1941, the daughter of John and Genevieve (Misch) Strobehn in Chicago. She graduated from Lakeview High School, Chicago. She married Ronald P. Lara on December 1, 1962 in Chicago. Ronald died on August 12, 2016 at his home in Elizabeth.
Carol worked as a receptionist for several doctor’s offices in the Chicagoland area, until retiring in 2001. After retiring to Elizabeth, Carol and her husband, Ronald operated Ron and Carol’s Sports Memorabilia for several years. Carol and her husband enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and were huge Chicago White Sox fans. Carol also collected Beauty and the Beast memorabilia and enjoyed anything with owls on it. Most of all, Carol cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Carol will be dearly missed by her two children, Tony (Kelly) Lara of Chicago, and Dawn (Brian) Moodenbaugh of Vancouver, Washington; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Pat Polizzi of Elizabeth, Diane (Bob) Schutz of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Janet (Dave) Balinski of Plainfield, Illinois.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; three brothers, Tom, George, and John Strobehn; and one sister, Joane Beam.
