Carol Helmle

Carol Ann Helmle, age 65, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at home following a four-year battle with ALS (Lou Gerrigs Disease). A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston, with Father Don Hertges as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 at the church, a second visitation will be held on Saturday, for an hour prior to Mass.
Carol was born on August 16, 1951, the daughter Alvin and Velma C. (Steines) Yaddof in Clinton, Iowa. She attended Preston High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. On June 27, 1970, Carol married the love of her life, Terry Helmle at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston. They celebrated 47 years together. Carol worked for 25 years at Preston Creamery in Preston at first on the pack line and later in the lab. Carol later started doing cleaning for many businesses, homes and the Lutheran Church in Preston.
Carol was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston. She volunteered with the Vacation Bible School; she also served treats for catechism. Carol was famous for her popcorn balls that she handed out at Halloween. She enjoyed bowling, Carol loved sports, she was an avid Chicago Cub’s fan, Bears, and Hawkeyes fan. She could name every coach for every team in the NCAA Basketball. Carol was her grandchildren’s #1 fan and now she will always have a front row seat at every one of their events.
Carol will be dearly missed by her devoted husband, Terry; two daughters, Tracy (DJ) Weber of Bellevue, Iowa, Marsha (Adam) Johnson of Preston; three grandchildren, Madison and Dawson Weber, Ada Johnson; father, Alvin of Preston; two brothers, Michael (Lisa) Yaddof of Preston, Leroy Yaddof of Preston; four sisters, Barb (John) Dodd of Clinton, Nancy (Jim) Derganz of Maquoketa, Iowa, Janet (Jon) Lee of Preston, Debbie (David) Lee of Preston; brother and sisters in-law, Clyde (Mary) Helmle of Clinton, Carol Gerlach of Springbrook, Iowa, LeRoy (Pam) Helmle Jr. of Maquoketa, LaVonne (Kevin) Nemmers of Springbrook, Virg (Jenale) Helmle of Preston, Kathy (Mike) Andersen of Preston, Wayne Helmle of Preston, Darlene Helmle of Springbrook, Patsy Burken of Bellevue, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her mother; niece, Amy Derganz; nephew, Darin Helmle; brother’s in-law, Allen and Mark Helmle, Robert Gerlach and Lee Homan. Pallbearers for Carol’s services will be, Terry Atkinson, Doug Lee, Tyler Helmle, Kelly Boehde, Joyce Miller, Tayden Helmle. Love you more!!! Carol
