Carol Sue Frahm, age 87, of Miles, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Miles Presbyterian Church. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Preston, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Miles City Cemetery.
Carol was born on June 9, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Walden and Marien (Flemming) Schultz. She grew up in Miles, where she developed a talent for baton twirling, eventually performing at Soldier Field as a young girl. Carol’s life changed in high school when she famously "picked out" Robert Frahm from a yearbook. They were united in marriage on July 20, 1958, in Miles and shared 66 years of marriage until Robert’s passing in 2025.
A dedicated educator, Carol earned her four-year degree from Marycrest College in Davenport. She spent over 25 years teaching, primarily as a 5th-grade teacher for the Miles and East Central School districts, before retiring in 1998. She was a fierce advocate for literacy, always encouraging her children and students to visit the library and check out the maximum number of books allowed.
Carol’s faith and community were central to her life. She was a lifelong member of the Miles Presbyterian Church and an active member, singing in the choir, participating in Mariners, and was a long time member of the Presbyterian Women. She was also involved in her community with the Antiquers and serving as a leader for the Miles Meadowlarks 4-H club.
In her later years, Carol was known for her active lifestyle. She was a member of the Maquoketa Country Club and the Preston Women’s Golf Club. She participated in a walking club for over 20 years, which she affectionately dubbed “The Turtles,” and was a regular at bridge groups. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cross-stitch. To many, Carol was a woman who "lit up a room," always seeking out those who needed help. She was a social butterfly who cherished the many friendships she built over the decades.
Most important to Carol was her family. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her grandchildren gave her life. She loved spending time with them, at creating unique moments and memories that they will cherish forever.
Carol will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sheralyn (Daniel) Bartels, of Clinton and Leah (Dennis) Robinson, of Neosho, MO; sons, Gary (Tracy) Frahm, of Miles and Michael Frahm, of Miles; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Janine, Beth, Matt, Dyllan, Jaime, Cache, Trane, and Malachi; five great-grandchildren, Norah, Atticus, Ronin, Declan, and Riley; and her siblings, Larry (Cindy) Schultz of Clinton, and Linda (Larry) Kline of Fairborn, Ohio. Carol is preceeded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Walden and Marien.
