Carol Mae (Disher) Dunnigan, age 77, of Savanna, Illinois and the last ten years at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at FHN Hospital, Freeport. Cremation will take place and a private family celebration of life will be held. Burial of ashes will be in Stevens Evangelical Cemetery, Flora. Memorials may be given in Carol’s memory for Heartland Pet Welfare, Savanna.
Carol was born December 28, 1933 in Savanna, the daughter of John and Eleanor Lucille (Dyer) Disher. She attended Savanna Schools, then enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a teletypist from 1952 – 1955. On June 24, 1961, Carol married Clifford Dale Dunnigan. He passed away November 24, 1981. She was later blessed a second time when she met and began a twenty-four year relationship with her loving companion, Herb Wilkinson.
Carol was a wonderful homemaker, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She enjoyed many crafts, including painting and macramé. When times were tough she made clothing for her kids. She could tackle any project. Carol was a graduate of LTD Interior Decorating School. She had also worked at Red’s Antique Shop in Savanna.
Carol is loved and survived by her daughter, Kelly (German) Verne of Grove City, Ohio; two sons, Bryan (Karen) Dunnigan of Cortland, Illinois and Brad (Carol) Dunnigan of Lakeland, Florida; her companion, Herb Wilkinson; six grandchildren, Misty, German, Jeremy, Sarah, Clifford and Austin; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Makayla; several other extended grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; two sisters, Margaret Motz and Jane Schneider; and her brother, Jack Disher.
