Carmen Kauffman

Carmen J. Kauffman, age 90, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oakville Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Carmen’s memory
Carmen was born at home in Savanna on December 23, 1924, the daughter of Harold and Lettie (Van Buer) Bender. She married Harold (Pete) Kauffman in Thomson, Illinois on October 27, 1944. She attended Savanna schools, graduating from Savanna Township High School with the Class of 1942. She then graduated from Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago in 1946.
Carmen worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, and a lifelong member of the Carroll County Republican Women.
Carmen is survived by her husband, Harold; one daughter, Nina (Dick) Olson of Sun City West, Arizona; two sons, Kim (Lois) Kauffman of Savanna and Mark (Elizabeth) Kauffman of Wheaton, Illinois; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Corrine Stamm.
