Carlos "Cub" Junior Zillhart

Carlos “Cub” Junior Zillhart, age 82, of Caledonia, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carroll, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at his home. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Cub’s memory.
Carlos was born July 8 1930, the son of Carlos and Mattie (Kehl) Zillhart in Woodland Township, Illinois. He attended Mt. Carroll High School, graduating with the class of 1949. Carlos served his country in the United States Army, 33rd Infantry Division from February 10, 1953 to January 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal. He had previously served in the Army National Guard. Cub married Alma June Zillhart on October 8, 1955. Alma passed away on April 16, 2002.
Cub was a bus driver for the Mt. Carroll school district until his retirement in January 1993. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Milledgeville, the American Legion Post #67, and the Forty and Eight Club. He also helped to initiate the Mt. Carroll Ambulance Association. Carlos enjoyed camping all of his life. He is well remembered at Christmas, Cub played "Santa" for many years in Mt. Carroll and Montford, Wisconsin.
Carlos will be dearly missed by his special friend, Elsie Watson of Caledonia; extended family, including several cousins; friends; and camping buddies. He is preceded in death by his wife, June, and both parents.
