Carl Potter

Carl Edward Potter age 86, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016, prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Carl’s memory.
Carl was born on March 8, 1930 in Elizabeth, the son of John Carl and Blanche M. (Shaw) Potter. He attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. Carl honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp. On April 6, 1957, Carl married the love of his life Katherine Chammales in Maywood, Illinois.
Carl worked for nine years as an Assistant Manager at Ag-Way in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. He also worked for Ross & White Co. in Wheeling, Illinois for nine years. Carl later went to work for Sunbeam Warwick Furnace in Wheeling for 17 years as an engineer until he retired. Carl cherished traveling and loved wintering in Florida, with his wife Katherine by his side. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the American Legion in Hanover. Most of all, Carl treasured spending time with his family and friends.
Carl will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Katherine; two sons, John Potter of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Charles (Alisha) Potter of Glenview, Illinois; two twin grandsons, John and Michael Potter; two sisters, Elizabeth Shepherd of Garden City, Kansas, Maxine “Micky” (Norman) Vanderhyden of Stockton, Illinois.
Carl was preceded in death by three sisters, Geneve Morrison, Marcella Kammer, and Irma Jean Geiger.
