Carl M.M. Haller, age 79, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at home. No services will be held and cremation will take place. A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date, with Inurnment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt Carroll. Carl was born May 11, 1927, the son of Paula (Mark) and Max Haller in Englewood, New Jersey. He was raised and schooled in Hamburg, Germany; he completed apprenticeship as a Carpenter and returned to the United States in 1948, moving to Rockford, Illinois. Carl was a Union Carpenter in the Residential and Commercial Construction Building Trade. He was a Honorary Life Member of Carpenters Local #792. He retired from Sjostrom & Sons Construction in 1989. Carl served in the Illinois National Guard for nineteen years; he was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He completed Ranger training and served as a Translator in Germany.
On September 6, 1958 Carl married Skaidrite Petersons in Rockford. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois. Carl enjoyed working on the family farm, planting trees, and creating a wild life habitat, maintaining walking trails and feeding the birds.
Carl is survived by his wife, Skaidrite; two sons, Sigurd Haller of Duluth, Minnesota and Tobi (Lynn) Haller of Loves Park, Illinois; one daughter, Heidi (Alan) Stone of Grand Marais, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Andrew, Andrea, Michael and Annika; two sisters, Margot and Liselotte of Argentina; one brother, Christian (Kathleen) Haller of Grand Rapids, Michigan; nieces, Ann, Barbara and Joyce of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Natalia of San Francisco, California; two nephews, David and Charles of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and three nephews in Argentina; three grand nieces, Nicole, Christa, Amanda.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Wolfram.
