Carl Anderson

Carl Junior Anderson loved his country, veterans and collecting and shooting his guns. He died at age 73 in Thomson, Illinois, Thursday, December 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. A visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with a Scripture Wake service being held at 2:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Carl’s memory.
Carl was born on October 19, 1940, the son of Carl Steve and Margaret Jane (Stewart) Anderson in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Sand Ridge Country School in rural Thomson. Carl married Patricia Ann Sterbenz on December 10, 1960 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna.
Carl was one of the first employees at Drives Incorporated in Fulton, Illinois. He first worked in the heat treatment department and later worked in mechanical maintenance. Carl worked at Drives Incorporated for over forty-three years, before retiring in 2002. He was a founding member of the Sons of the American Legion, Thomson. Carl’s father was a World War II veteran and the love for his country and veterans was passed down to both of his sons who also served in the military. Carl loved to collect military memorabilia and tinker around his house. He also enjoyed collecting and shooting guns with his family and friends.
Carl will be dearly missed by his wife, Pat of Thomson; two sons Carl Jay Anderson of Savanna and Jesse Anderson of Thomson; one daughter, Pat (Robert) Foster of Thomson; five grandchildren, Anthony, David, Shawn and Shannon Anderson and Justin Foster and four great grandchildren, Jacey and Braxton Foster and Wyatt and Mia Anderson.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Jessica and Sonya Foster; two brothers and one sister.
