Brenda Mitchell, age 81, of Freeport passed away peacefully Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Manor Court of Freeport. Brenda had a conscientious and ambitious spirit. She always planned ahead, but would set-off on a trip with a friend, in a moments notice! Here we say, “Goodbye for now Brenda, we will see you again.”
Brenda was born during a snowy day, February 13, 1940 in Elizabeth, Illinois, the daughter of LeVerne and Martha (Winter) Mitchell. She grew up on the family farm on Scout Camp Road, attending a country school. As a young girl, Brenda dealt with bouts of epilepsy until the age of 17 when she seemed to grow out of it. She is a graduate of the Stockton High School with the Class of 1958.
Brenda chose the single life. Always dependable and hard-working, she worked many years at Vitner’s Potato Chips on the line, and nightly maintenance at US Bank downtown Freeport. She enjoyed walking, even to the grocery store and work. Brenda valued her friends and depended on them for relationship and moral support. She often enjoyed listening to local musicians with friends. She lived a simple, but rich life.
Brenda will be dearly missed by several nieces and nephews, and her friends, including her close friend, Judith Cary. Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Crescence Knapp, and her brother, Kirk Mitchell.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Law Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will take place in Woodbine Cemetery.
