Brenda Sue Ashcraft

May 12, 1950 — April 10, 2026

Clinton, IA

Brenda Sue Ashcraft passed this life peacefully on April 10, 2026, at home surrounded by family. When no one was looking she slipped out the back door into heaven. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the church, as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday. A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at a later date in Carrollton, KY.

Brenda was born May 12, 1950, in Carrollton, KY, to Charlie B and Jean (Plew) Fisher. She was raised by her grandfather and grandmother Martin and Bertie Brindley. Brenda was educated in the Carroll County school district in Kentucky. She married Donald Ashcraft in Carrollton, KY, on January 26, 1971. Together they raised 4 children.

She moved her family to Clinton, IA, in 1983. Brenda received her Associates Degree in Nursing in 1989. She began her nursing career at Jane Lamb Hospital on the medical floor, then worked for Mercy Hospital on the medical/surgical unit. Brenda retired from Mercy Hospital in 2007 and went to work at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she worked until 2018. Not knowing what to do with all of her free time, she went to work at Maggie's House in DeWitt, IA. She officially retired from nursing in 2020 at her families request due to the dangers and risks of COVID. She loved being a nurse and touched many lives during her nursing career. Brenda was affectionately called "grandma" by both the staff and residents at Eagle Point nursing home. She considered nursing and family to be her greatest accomplishments.

Brenda loved John Wayne, George Strait, holidays with family, and watching her grandchildren in their many extracurricular activities. She took great pride and joy in her ability to correctly predict each and every one of her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's' genders. With each correct prediction she would exclaim "Right again!"

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Donald Ashcraft of Clinton; her Children, Christel (Christopher) Atkinson of Clinton, Donald Ashcraft of Madison, IN, Michael Ashcraft of Clinton, and Robin (Billy) Mertz of Worthville, KY; 11 grandchildren, Tonya (Josh) Roth, BJ (Kendra) Mertz, Amanda Ashcraft, Alexi (Brad) Heilmann, Tavian Moore, Amber (Kyle Guenthner) Ashcraft, Rebekah (Roy) Brown, CJ Atkinson, Taylia Stearns, Melanne Ashcraft and Mckenna Mertz; 5 great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Mertz, Marlee and Charlotte Brown, Winston Roth, and Calvin Guenthner; her sister, Teresa (Donald) Kindoll of Bedford, KY; her brothers, Rodney (Julie) Fisher, Dale (Melissa) Fisher and Sam Fisher all of Madison, IN; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.
