Bonnie J. Lotz of Lanark went to her eternal home and reunited with her husband, Jim, on May 8, 2025, at the age of 86.
Bonnie grew up as a Milledgeville girl, the daughter of Evan and Kathryn (Schreiner) Strauch. Shortly after graduating from Milledgeville High School, she married James Lotz, and they had 57 years together before his passing in 2013.
Bonnie was locally known as The Cake Lady, who made and sold cakes for over 30 years. If you remember her, more than likely you had the pleasure of enjoying one of her beautiful and delicious cakes. She also taught cake decorating classes through Highland Community College and Sauk Valley College.
Bonnie also worked many years in the office at Rolling Hills Progress Center in Lanark, starting at its inception in 1976 before retiring in 1997.
She loved sewing and quilting and was addicted to collecting fabric, quilting books and patterns. She was a talented and creative lady who enjoyed creating arts and crafts of all kinds.
Bonnie was a member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren.
She will be missed by two daughters, Jodi (Fred) Arnold of Scottsdale, AZ and Julie (Roger) Kruse of Lanark; two grandsons, Cody (Carly) Kruse of Shannon and Cameron (Kristen) Kruse of Warren; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Kambry, Brylynn, Bristyl, Brier & Brielle; two sisters, Connie Halvorsen of Rockford and Karen (Jack) Welch of Lanark; brother and sister-in-law Dennis (Wilma) Lotz of Lanark; nephews, David Lotz, Kevin & Kerry Welch and a niece, Denise Lotz Kalka.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, brother-in-law Alan Halvorsen, niece Kathryn Hanna and nephew Patrick Hanna.
A private graveside service will be held at the Lanark Cemetery at a later date.
