Bobby “Tiny“ E. Hoffman, age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center North Campus, Clinton, Iowa. According to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the family in Bobby’s memory.
Bobby was born June 7, 1929, in Hoxie, Arkansas, the son of Edker B. and Nellie L. (Powers) Hoffman. He proudly served in the United States Army. Bobby worked at National Lock Hardware Division in Rockford, Illinois, as a Die Cast Plater and Foreman for thirty three years until retiring in 1980. He also worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Rockford Merchant Police Department for twenty eight years. Bobby owned and managed the Lazy River Marina in Savanna for eleven years from 1981 to 1992.
Bobby was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., and was a past member of the American Legion, the Savanna Moose Lodge, and the Westside Baptist Church in Rockford. He loved NASCAR racing and especially spending time fishing.
Bobby is survived and lovingly remembered by two sons, Philip D. (Anna) Hoffman Sr. of Clinton, Iowa, and Bobby D. Hoffman of Glendale, Arizona; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Juanita Ening of Rockford, Illinois, Anita (Jim) Sherman of Rockford, and Sue Latino of Rockford.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jean.
