Bob Haug, age 71, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Midwest Medical Center, Galena, following an automobile accident. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth with a visitation held from 10:00 -11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Bob was born July 1, 1941 in Elizabeth, the son of John and Antoinette “Bob” Elizabeth (Buenger) Haug. He is a graduate of the Hanover High School with the Class of 1960 where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball. On September 20, 1970, Bob married Joan Elaine Jacobs in Livonia, MI. He later married Uva Mae (Runkle) Hartog on March 25, 2001 in Elizabeth. Uva Mae passed away September 12, 2012.
Bob was a dairy farmer on the family farm in rural Elizabeth for much of his life. He also drove truck for Schneider National and for Greg Thoren and worked in food processing for Primera Foods. He was a long time member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elizabeth. Bob was a member of the Swiss Valley Farms Cooperative and was named the Outstanding Young Dairy Farmer in 1969 – 1970. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and keeping close connections with his brother and sisters. He was well traveled, having visited 49 of the 50 states, and China.

Bob is survived by a daughter, Sheryl Haug of Urbana, IA; a son, Daniel (Guoqin “Sally” Chen) Haug of Dubuque, IA; four grandchildren, Ruthanne, Jacob, Matthew and Samuel Haug; two step-sons, Don (Robin) Hartog of Stockton, IL and Dave (Dawn Howarth) Hartog of Cedarville, IL; two brothers, Ed (Pat) Haug of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI and Tom (Barbara) Haug of Medford, NJ; four sisters, Louise (Bill) Tippett of Galena, Mary Norwood of Neosha, MO, Jacquelin Haug-Schulz of San Francisco, CA and Carolyn (Don) Crawford of Hanover; and his first wife and friend, Joan Haug of Dubuque. Bob is preceded in death by his second wife, Uva Mae Haug.
