Bill E. Shepherd, age 85, of Hanover, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover with Reverend Bill Plomberg officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
Bill was born in 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa to Ernest and Amey (Redmond) Shepherd. Bill graduated from the Platteville High School with the Class of 1942. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the 20th Armored Division of the United States Army from 1943 through 1946 in the European Campaign. Bill received a Bronze Battle Star. On March 8, 1947, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Potter in Galena, Illinois.
Bill worked for many years at the Savanna Army Depot as Chief of Equipment. He was a member of Hanover VFW and a past member of the Shriners. Most important to Bill was spending time with his family and friends.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Jamie Seitz of Pine Springs, Minnesota; a son, Bill (Rita) Shepherd of Garden City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Max and Abbey Seitz; Sarah and Audrey Shepherd and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert and three sisters Dorothy Pothour, Marjorie Spolnick and Geneive Trotter.
