Betty Jean Wilkinson, age 72, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. A visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Betty’s memory.
Betty was born September 13, 1942, in Savanna, the daughter of Harry and Dorothea (Colebaugh) Holy. She was raised in Savanna and attended Savanna schools. Betty married Herb Wilkinson on October 5, 1960 in Eagle Point Park, Clinton, Iowa. They later divorced, but remained close friends.
Betty was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family. She operated Betty’s Coffee Cup in Fulton, Illinois for several years. She also worked at Eaton Manufacturing. She was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge and acted as a Foster Grandparent for the West Carroll Pre-School.
Betty enjoyed baking, cooking, camping, crocheting, drawing, painting, playing cards and bingo, and country music, especially the “Mississippi Man”. Most of all, she loved vacationing and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Everyone will surely miss Betty’s great sense of humor.
Betty is survived by her four children, Thomas (Charlene) Wilkinson of Galena, Illinois, Faron (Laura) Wilkinson of Stockton, Illinois, Dana (Mike) Armstrong of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and Troy (Rhonda) Wilkinson of Savanna; seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Bailey of Savanna and Jack Bailey of North Carolina; and one sister, Darlene Brown of Morrison, Illinois.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Bailey; and one brother-in-law, Jack Shepard.
