Betty I. Kahl, age 79, of Elizabeth, Illinois, was called home to the Lord on Friday, August 4, 2006, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elizabeth, Illinois. Father Chris Kuhn will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2006, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
Betty was born on August 13, 1926, in East Dubuque, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Agnus (Roth) Tupper. Betty graduated from Elizabeth High School. She married Miles H. Kahl on May 8, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elizabeth, Illinois.
Betty worked at Burgess Battery in Freeport, Illinois until her marriage. She and Miles resided at Craig Manor in Hanover, Illinois, and moved to a remodeled schoolhouse in Weston in 1955. Betty’s last home was in Elizabeth, living there since 1965.
Betty was also employed at the Hanover Wollen Mills, Savanna Army Depot, and the Elizabeth Nursing Home. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Hanover and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth.
Betty is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Miles; three daughters, Connie (Steve) Bogart of Baker City, Oregon, Jeanette Biava of DeKalb, Illinois, and Janice (Ted) Rinehart of Freeport, Illinois; one son, James (Connie) Kahl of Durand, Illinois; six grandchildren, Ryan (April) Lieb of Lincoln, Nebraska, Zachary Bogart of Lincoln, Nebraska, Morgan Bogart of Baker City, Oregon, Aaron Kahl and Michelle Kahl of Durand, Illinois, and Angelia Rinehart of Freeport, Illinois; and one niece, Penny (Tom) Bankhead of Phoenix, Arizona.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jane Lindstrom; and one half sister, Alice (Tupper) Sheffer.
