Betty J. Guenzler, age 77, of Chadwick, Illinois, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at home in her sleep. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty’s name to Mercy Home Care and Hospice, Clinton, Iowa.
Betty was born June 5, 1940, in Swan Creek, Illinois, the daughter of Harry Scotty and Esther (Chase) Goodell. Esther and her children moved to the Clinton, Iowa, area where Betty grew up. Betty was a factory worker and homemaker; and later became a cleaning lady around the Chadwick area.
Betty married Sherman Guenzler on June 15, 1968, and they moved to the Chadwick area in 1970 where they raised four of eight children. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church where she served on several committees over the years. Betty enjoyed going antiquing with friends and visiting the apple orchard in the fall. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Betty will be dearly missed by her husband, Sherman; her children, Jerry (Colleen) Turner of Manchester, New Hampshire, Glenn Turner of Garner, North Carolina, Tina (Eric) Sigel of Lanark, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Joy Turner of Davenport, Iowa; three step-sons, Jeffrey (Beth) Guenzler of Aurora, Illinois, Michael (Rina) Guenzler of Port Orchard, Washington, Brian (Amy) Guenzler of Jasper, Alabama; a brother, Harry (Diane) Goodell of Camanche, Iowa; a sister, Gloria Jean (Anderson) O’Donnell of Clinton, Iowa; half-brother, Fred (Diane) Goodell of Grubville, Missouri; half-sister, Zelpha Mae (Jerry) Anderson of Galesburg, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by both sets of parents; two sons, Guy Turner and Kevin Turner; a sister, Dorothy (Goodell) Kline; and a half-brother, Frank Goodell.
