Betty Louise Giles, age 75, of Savanna, previously of Chicago, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Betty was born December 27,1936 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Fox) Lane. She was baptized in the Baptist Church. Betty is a graduate of the Rule High School, Knoxville with the Class of 1953. Soon after high school, Betty married Charles Lee Giles. They brought four children to their marriage, Charles, Larry, William and Rebecca. Her husband, Charles died in 1983.
Betty learned to work hard at a young age, always helping to support family. After marriage, she and Charles moved to the Chicago area. She did factory work until learning the baking business at Heinemann Bakery in Chicago. Betty worked for Heinemann’s until her retirement in 2000. She loved the Savanna area as it reminded her of her roots. Betty made her home in Savanna in 2007. Her pastimes included playing slots at the casino and watching soap operas.
Betty is survived by two sons, Larry (Gail) Giles of Melrose Park, Illinois, William Giles of Chicago, Illinois; a daughter, Rebecca Cox of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, Beverly (Chris) Acker, Catina (Eddie) Kendrick, Ivan Giles, Connie Giles, Tabatha Giles; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Earl of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sisters, Jane Becker, Helen Lambert, Mary Ann Hendrick all of Knoxville, Tennessee. Betty is preceded in death by her husband,Charles; a son, Charles in 1991, two brothers Chester, Jack; and a sister, Lynn.
